Why do people think you need some Pwnage machine for Vista ? I am sitting in my office right now on 1GB of DDR2 and a Celeron 440 @ 2ghz and Vista FLIES....It really does. Most office machines these days have atleast my Spec..not all but alot.

As for people saying Vista is slower, well I just do not know where you are coming from...DONT even try to blame it on '' Oh noes Vista uses up too much RAM'' It doesnt thats called memory management and Vista preloads frequently used apps into memory for FASTER access. If RAM is needed then Vista will unload applications so that others can utilize the free memory. Its a very Dynamic system and it seems most people have not got a clue when it comes to Vista.

Oh and BTW for everyone saying Vista runs slow...well I use it on my Asus EEE with minimal specs...and it runs as fast if not faster than XP...so yeah I know what I am talking about.

As a man that works in small business offices all day setuping networks, installing network printer, 3rd party speciality software, and talking to old ladies and men that can't work with a computer at all. IT WOULD BE HELL for them to switch to Vista....You just don't understand...

Well I can understand perhaps for speciality software and networks perhaps using systems prior to server 2008.

Well I initially was talking about the well younger generation of people who work in the office...not old old people.

When you say setting up a network printer...Is that hard or something as I have never had a problem with it. Describe your problem as I am rather interested.

It's not the software conflicts I'm speaking of, I was just describing what I do. The problem is that people DO NOT LIKE change in the small business office type of settings. I had to setup user licenses on a business in Birmingham on a 2008 server because they had to upgrade from a DOS based application to a GUI interfaced executable and **** IT WAS THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE. People will talk trash, complain, threaten, till its the dead horse being beatin by a stick over change. EVEN IF IT IS change for the better, people still hate change. I use Vista, I know it's good and I love it. But Vista is so vastly different in ways people that know SOME thing about computers when they move to Vista they lose that little knowledge they had and automatically hate it.

You saying most people have upgraded enough machines....I still work with a lot of 98 machines unfortunately. ;/

I can agree that most small office users with little experience with Operating systems would dislike the move to Vista. I guess its all down to what te company in question wishes to achieve.

Yeah, if companies could offer 1 on 1 training it would make the industry so much more able.

To true. Employers dont wish to fork out for that though it seems. Im lucky as I am taking a Windows Vista client certification that my boss has paid for me to do......to be honest its just for the official nice certificate lol.

I think companies would save alot of time and money if they paid out for some initial...even basic training on new operating systems.

I can answer that I happen to work for a corporation Intel-style and be a good pal with the network admin in my side of the building. I couldn't resist to ask: why not Vista?

Here are a few in no particular order:

1. The network management is not thru windows' tools, but thru some Novell operated servers
2. From my work rig I have access to a couple of hundreds of printers throughout the world; I can be in France and print stuff in Italy. Apparently this feature is considered useful by some. Link to Vista? You guessed it, most of the printers are incompatible with Vista - no driver support.
3. The security of the network is assured by another departement inside the corp. so Vista's added features mean nothing to the admins.
4. He will have to justify before his boss the added cost. People at work shouldn't play Dx10 games on the FireGLs and Ouadros... so what is there to justify this cost?

I'm sure I forgot stuff, it's been a while from this discussion. What seemed to me is that this particular admin has a hard time convincing anybody (if he would want to) that Vista is worth the added cost and risk of incompatibility.

The only possible thing that would be useful is the 64bit part as for one I work with huge finite element simulations that would benefit the added memory space; however I'm a developer and there are not many like me in 400 000 employees.

The inertia of a home user like any of us is far smaller than a company's and moreover it's directly proportional to the company's size. IMO the rapport is valid, it's highly likely that all the big corporations do the same.

My 2 cents.

This has to be down to networking, networking on Vista is garbage in comparison.
