I realised that there was no sense in being here...I mean for what. A couple of GCSE's that may or may not get me into a college I never really wanted to attend anyway....oh yes please !.

You dont learn anything remotely important in school. Granted Maths,English and science are important in the most part. You are learning all the time and IMO the learning starts after school. The real learning that is. Life is a learning curve. School is all politics and the majority of what you are supposedly taught you will never use again lol.

School for me was always a prison. Apart from seeing mates, that was the only good part of it.

There are many problems with the education system, atleast here and that is they dont do anything that really engages your mind and excites you. Or is it just me ?, I was bored stupid most of the time.

The only good lesson was I.T and that was only because I could get on the internet, They didnt teach me anythng in IT I did not already know. Not because I was super smart...but because the topics they cover are embarassing in school I.T.

Yes yes yes and yes. My HS is run like a supermax for f'n sake...and hell even in my math and english classes I never learned anything useful because the tards in the room were soo dumb they couldn't even add on a calculator/read a simple passage in under 5 minutes. The sad thing is, I learned more from the interwebs than I did from the required acemedia classes my highschool forced down my throat. Now, my ag mechanics and auto shop classes were highly educational, as was electronics, despite the majority of the school system's funding going to diesel and new English textbooks.

For an idea of how retarded management was at my school, you actually HAD to go to lunch even if you didn't want their ****ty food, and had to sit on your ass in there for 30 minutes losing your hearing, because heaven forbid you disturb your english teacher for makeup work from the day you missed before...And to get out, you either left a valuable with the main warden or you brought a teacher note(*** teacher note? I'm not going to walk all the way to vocational, disturb them, get a note, come back here, give you the note just so I can go to the library to browse /b/ via proxy, you tool), which had to be from your next class, then hope the warden actually accepted it. They also care more about dress code than about education, as they expect every teacher in every block to take 20 minutes out of his class time to write EVERY dress code offender(even an untucked shirt), then send them to ISS...

They then wonder why kids are so stupid that they don't know what two doors in a given opening are for, or they don't realise that rainwater is probably cleaner than the water that comes from their shower and it won't harm them falling on their head.

:P And when I did my research paper, my English teacher said outright "NO WIKI! It's unreliable!". To say I didn't use Wiki would be a lie...but I didn't use it for info, I used it to find sources of info.

I HATED public high school. Our science class teacher quit, and we were given a sub for the rest of the year who told us to nap all class. In the classes that were worth paying attention in, the kids were too stupid to realise that they NEED an education to get anywhere in life. We had alot of kids bussed in from the inner city...you could tell what gang someone was in by their chosen lunch table.

I got so fed up I said "Screw the public school system, I can do better on my own" and homeschooled myself. Best descision of my life. Now that I'm in college, teachers don't even care if your source is from a real book or an e-book. So long as its credible, your good.

Sometimes I think pre college teachers just make you use real books to keep funding for their library coming in, which then gets used elsewhere.

Si. You haven't seen the kilt?

The reason kids are stupid is because they're lazy, and their parents don't teach them to work hard to get a good degree. My parents will knock me over the head with it until I get it right, and i'm better for it. I'm in line to go to Rice instead of junior college.

The article did originate in scottland but I think it's obvious the conversation has moved beyond that, since this issue is fairly universal.
