I call BS on that. I simply do not believe that linux takes 10 times longer to boot than windows does on the same machine.

Linux does take a bit longer to boot... But seriously, who periodically needs to reboot Linux? Ok, that's a stretch Seriously, though. Kinda.

Ubuntu 8.04 seems to have a much better boot speed than other Linux distros I have seen. It boots faster than XP home did on my sister's 1.2GHz sempron, 256MB RAM laptop.

I would hope that the same will hold true for Suse 11.0, but I haven't had the chance to get a native install running.

Linux isn't for basic end users. I tried it on my sig rig, just trying to install sound card drivers gave me a headache. It has to be done through terminal. Why do I have to install my drivers through terminal where as in OSX it does it automatically for you and windows has a simple next back or cancel feature?

Just a random question, but wasn't this a Mac thread? ON TOPIC: The idea of Macintosh opening up a build for non Mac users is seemingly important in the fact that driver devs and code builders for a whole facet of different players would potentially be the greatest thing imaginable for theater gurus, gamers, and general users imagining a life a little higher than Linux, but without all the horsesh-- you'd expect from a Microsoft product. And it's two mints in one for Intel users. Now if only we could find a way to utilize all the gooey morsels of tech available with Intel builds.
