Default P2P Impact of Viacom Vs Google

Hi

Not sure if everyone heard this but thought it would have an interesting topic. In the recent court case of Viacom Vs Google (Viacom sueing over youtube) a judge ordered google to hand over IP address to Viacom of users that had watched videos on youtube. The lawer for Viacom argued that the IP addresses were not enough to identify individual users that had watched the videos and therefore their ID was safe. What I want to is, if this is the case how could anyone be charged with using a P2P network if IP addresses can't identify users. IP addresses are exactly what are used in P2P cases.

Let us know what you think, here's the link also

- Ordering a 20' widescreen monitor then realizing you made a mistake while calculating the needed height. Bummer.
- Buying a 3870 a week before 48xx benchmarks surface.
- Having 2 HDDs and buying 2 more w/o checking if the mobo controller can perform past 3 disks in RAID0.
- Buying a Zalman VF-900Cu when even a badass overclock will keep your card alive for two years.

Think your missing the point and its not mentioned in the order thread, this means that you can't be charged with P2P file shaing as you simply state that in the case of Viacom Vs Google etc etc, No ????

Hmm, that's an interesting angle for sure....

Holy Crap! I just read that article and it looks like Viacom is trying their best to steal Googles business away!

Quote:
But while Google was forced to give up video logs, the judge denied Viacom’s request for Google’s and YouTube’s search engine source code. Google claimed the code represented 1000 man years of development time and said divulging the code would be risking the loss of Google’s core business. Viacom countered by saying it wanted to prove that Google manipulated the code to treat copyrighted material differently, but Judge Stanton didn’t buy that argument.
Why the heck would they want the bloody source code?! They also wanted to know who paid what for advertising?

Quote:
Viacom also wanted Google’s advertising schema database which contains all the advertising companies and amounts charged for ads within YouTube. This request was also denied by Judge Stanton because he didn’t think it was relevant to the case.
What the hell is Viacom playing at?
