Yeah people don't realize that some of the ads in the corner of pages are ads people paid to put it and I've seen them lead to webpages with malicious intent. It's just about the #1 virus bait on the internet, cept porn holds that title very well.

Because there are people who target random IP's all day with code that exploits the machine with no end user input?

There are people who attack certain ranges in IP addresses according to the location of the area or service they want to hit.

Sort of, people set up machines to do constant ping sweeps for all the IP ranges. They can find out all sorts of information with little effort, they can find out if they are hitting a router or a server. They can tell what OS you are running as well, and from there they can find out if there are any available ports and then they own the machine.

I can remember the days when I use to have a port blocker when I was so crazy about protecting myself. You probably wouldn't be suprised, but most people would about many times people port attack your machine why its sitting idle. Port attacking doesn't even have to be malicious it's the fact they are scanning and checking for your vulnerbilities.

"Windows." Lol. This is ridiculously vague. By saying "Windows PC" his intention is not to say something about 2000 or XP to users that would help them. His intention is to create a contrast between Windows, Mac, and Linux in order to sell more of the other two. Simplistic in terms of security and deceptive in the sense that it doesn't tell you anything you don't already know. It's like he's taking a class on Internet security and he's read through 1998 now in his book.
