Maybe it's not possible? Maybe it would take more work? Maybe it wouldn't be worth it?

Take your pick. Because we don't know the real answer.

E3 is a console venue. If you begin talking about how games work at an event where everything has to be shiny, flashy and superficial you're going to blow their little heads.

In a way it's what they do, based on the windows display driver model and all the other 'out with the trash, in with the new' stuff introduced in Vista, so thankfully it won't be another 'OS exclusive API'. Who cares though, DX10 or 11, it'll be available for Vista as a download, so it's not like it matters what it says on the tin.

Because when none of the design, code, hardware, or industry consensus about how to make those features happen exists, you can't just put them in. There's much more to it than just making a list. Behind each of these specs is YEARS of man-hours of planning, designing, debating, PROGRAMMING, and testing. It seems so simple (?) after it's all done. It's easy to think, "Well, why didn't they just do that in 1995, why'd we have to wait all this time?" The real answer is similar to why you haven't already finished all your work for this year? Remember, developing this stuff is something thousands of people get up in the morning and go to work to do.

Uhm, what happened to DX 10.1? When's that going to be incorporated and put to use? Most newer ATI cards are "DX 10.1-ready". Did that suddenly become an obsolete feature now, now that they're more focused on DX 11?

in what games was this implemented? (i wasn't aware that it was a DX10 feature, but my knowledge on this is very limited). seriously, ive only seen it in Stalker Clear Sky. and that's yet to be released.

I agree with your idea on puplic opinion, though.
