Correct.

Up till now, Physx has been in Beta, and its real release will be done on all CUDA enabled cards; so everything 8 series and newer.

They have stated many many times that it will be available on all CUDA enabled cards.

It is questionable though if they will let you say run an 8800GT for the game, and tell it to offload all physx to another card (like an 8600GT).

I believe the G80 cards will be updated with a later patch. If ALL 8x00 series and 9x00 series cards were compatible, then the article would have stated such. However, it clearly said that all CAPABLE 8000 and 9000 series cards would be updated with this upcoming driver set. Now, all 9000 series cards should be able to bust out PhysX processing. However, not all 8000 series cards are capable, because some have G80 cores. And G80 cores were meant to be addressed at a later date--still soon though.
