That must be for something else. I've gotten several BSODs in vista that I didn't induce (and some that I did induce). My dad's store-bought compaq with vista basic BSODed 4 days after we bought it and several times thereafter. My own computer BSODed a couple times due to my bad RAM.
You let your dad buy a pre built compaq from a store pre-installed with vista ?

you should be ashamed of your self !!

Agreed. Here at OCN I figured they would be a-lot more people willing to tweak Vista to their needs. I just went around and tinkered with the OS until I had turned off everything I didn't want, making it twice as good as before. I have never had a single problem with Vista that I couldn't fix myself in less than five minutes. I love how it looks and I love how it functions. I'm glad I made the switch last year.

Vista has a lot of stuff that I think is stupid and that should be turned off by default...UAC and the side bar being the largerst most obvious ones, but there are a lot of un-needed services that are running by default as well that should only be on if a user wants them. That is my only beef with Vista...

...that and how there are some chipsets that won't let you install vista if you have more than 3GB of memory installed. I learned the hard way that the 680i is one of them. This was fixed in SP1, but if you haven't gotten around to making a copy with SP1 slipstreamed in that doesn't help. Though I've never looked into the detail to learn if this was the chipset designer's fault or Microsoft's.
UAC should be on by default as should the sidebar. Neither are a hassle to switch off. Fail.

I completely ignored your "point" because you're talking utter rubbish and people are starting to stroke your wang for it. I'm not validating any of your "points" with a response. Vista > XP, fact.

You said "all you Windows Guys said XXXX about Linux" which is OVER GENERALISING.

If you've based your entire opinion of Vista on a prebuilt POS, then you have lost this topic once and for all.

You do realize you can just reskin your XP to look like Vista. I did that because that's the only thing about it I liked.

I got Ultimate for free, I guess it's going on my next machine, I don't know if I want to stay on XP if I have to make the jump to 64 bit anyway.

XP 64bit is horrendous and using the Vista theme for XP seriously drains resources. Moreso than Vista.

I really dont see why so many are negative about Vista... I have had problems mainly with networking which is one of the things they say is easier, but then I had those same problems in XP too so nothing changed in that department for me.

But overall I have found Vista to be quite good, I have tweaked it so I want the stuff I like and bin the stuff I dont use and the other stuff that is neither here nore there well I still have to check it out.

Well, this is exactly what I experience among my clients. They bash and bash Vista, and I say that I like it, and that others usually just dislike Vista because that's the general consensus. They then look embarrassed, but I say that with a new computer designed for Vista and the newest updates, it won't be slow or unsecure. I've convinced quite a few to use Vista and they love it. I also add in that I use XP on my laptop because it's better suited to the older hardware, just to avoid any misunderstandings about pushing products or fanboyism.
