I get no spyware/adware/or popups either on IE7, I design websites for a living, and I have taken Firefox OFF of my links page, because they are doing EXACTLY what they accused IE of doing...writing code that ONLY works on Firefox, and looks bad or wrong on EVERY other browser, and Firefox is NOT doing STANDARD WEB CODING PRACTICES, so that ALL browsers see it the same, I used to be a big Firefox supporter, but the latter versions of 2.x and the new 3.0..they have become FireFail...point blank.

Uh, I'm sorry, what?

Gecko, the rendering engine behind firefox is always working at W3C compliancy, and hasn't veered away from that. It isn't perfect, and isn't the best (Opera renders the best out of the browsers), but it's a damn sight in front of IE.

Yea Latty, I was thinking the same thing......and how exactly do sites 'only' write code for Firefox? It is IE that uses the proprietary rendering engine. Microsoft only really cares how IE renders their own web apps.

When you look at CSS practices, like using the CSS as the property for rollover background images, Firefox is the only browser that will only show it as a wide line at the bottom instead of a background image. Also Firefox does not comply in say a standard "padding" , instead of looking as it should, it creates a "space" and pads it incorrectly, there are quite a few other things I could point out as well. And no, it is not keeping with W3C standards.

No, It's not perfect, but it's far from the worst. you can't expect all browsers to be perfect, and it is nowhere near as bad as IE7.

I am a web developer, I develop sites in standards compliant code. The fact is IE won't even take XHTML served with the correct mime type, it doesn't parse it as XML! It's disgraceful!

You can't bash FF for being a little out, all browsers are. I love to see improvements all of the time. The thing is that with Gecko these are seen as bugs, with Trident they are seen as M$'s 'features'.

I use IE 7 without an antivirus or anti spyware

i don't get popups, and there aren't random unexplained processes that take up resources either. i'm happy where i'm at.

the only way you're gonna get a virus is

A: someone messages you with "hey, check out these pic of us" on MSN and you click on it
B: you frequent warez websites looking for illegal software
C: you DL sketchy porn

other than that the internet is the source of all knowledge

You realise Viruses are intelligent pieces of software right? Install an antivirus and scan your system, then you can say it's clean.

That argument always leaves me dumbfounded, how do you know your system is clean?
