Anyone know if IE8 is going to use standards?

Somehow I doubt this... lol

I've always found IE to be a "decent" browser at best. I consider FF many times better, as well as Opera. In terms of rendering speed, I think it goes Opera > FF > Safari > IE

In terms of features, I think it goes FF > Opera > Safari > IE (in Safari, you can install "SafariBlock" which works 100% with FF's Adblock's filter subscription list).

At least starting with IE7, though, IE has been a decent browser. The only reason I don't like it is because they like to keep things proprietary. If there were an open source browser called IE that looked and acted like microsoft's but used web standards, I think I'd like it.

Right. The good malware (isn't that an oxymoron...) you will never know about!

This leads me to believe that online banking and purchasing is most safely done on a Live OS, like a live version of Linux. Does that sound reasonable? Would you call a live disk more safe to do online stuff with?

Were you joking about that? Because there's really a browser called Ice Weasel. It's Firefox with a different name because some devs got into a fight with the FF devs. Debian uses Ice Weasel as its default browser.

If you are using IE at the moment, you are directly holding back the future of the internet, and making every web developers job harder (and if you develop for IE you are a second-rate developer who should be shot). And I'm being entirely serious.

M$ might be making IE8 W3C compliant, if they do, good job on them, I'll stop complaining, but I have no reason to believe they will do a good enough job.

I use IE7, up to date but with no other mods or changing of settings. Its pretty much standard out of install settings.

Nope the space around your avatars hair is clear and is showing the background colour. It is not black.

Number of fail to you = 1

IE7 has a built in pop up blocker which is enabled by default. As such I dont ever get any pop ups at all. Just a nice little bar at the top telling me a popup was blocked. Can be annoying when scriped windows for entering URL links are blocked

Number of fail to you = 2.

Anyone trying to preach out about which browser is the best is wasting their breath. In the end it comes down to personal preference. Each browser has different bugs and security holes.

Actually, his avatar is a GIF anyway, so IE failing at Alpha transparency isn't a problem. IE7 actually does support Alpha transparency, it was IE6 that didn't.

That said, IE7 still can't render to within a decent level of the W3C specs, and is as such a bad web browser. That's not an opinion, that is a fact.
As to whether you still wish to use it, that's up to you. But I'll hate you as a web developer if you do use IE.

I thought before that ie8 was suppose to be using the same "standard" test that all the other web browsers used... I coulda swore i read an article here that said they passed the test and did a good job at that...
Dont quote me but i thought they did..

I use FF at home and i installed at work. Never had probs with IE except at work but i switched to FF ages ago and tbh it had a nicer feel to it for me. I downloaded safari the other day....does it seem like a bad interface to anyone else? and whats the go with the text smoothing that makes it look bad?

But to each his own. IMHO it doesnt really matter which browser someone uses or which is better. It just personal preference.

The only people that hate Firefox are those people who haven't even tried it properly.
