It's true. You can code for standards compliant browsers or IE. You can't code for both at the same time (meaning writing the same section once for IE and once for everything else doesn't mean you're coding for both at the same time).

IE sucks to code for, and uh, IMHO, IE has always felt MUCH, MUCH slower than other browsers for me. It seems to take a long time from when it shows up to when it starts loading, and from when it loaded something to when it starts rendering.

It's felt like this for me on every single computer... and maybe Firefox doesn't have a real advantage, I haven't tested, and it's possible they just make it feel more responsive.

For example, with Firefox, the time you have to wait for the browser to start happens before it shows up, while with IE it shows up first and then you have to wait, sitting there staring at a white screen.

Also, pressing Stop in IE is not always immediate. Sometimes you have to wait close to half a sec, which is annoying. FF's Stop is immediate.

There is also a weird flicker (one flicker) when you press Stop or Refresh as the page is rerendered. It doesn't feel smooth.
FF on the other hand doesn't have this flicker as what you currently see is only removed once the new page starts rendering. In monitor terms of feel, IE would be a CRT while FF would be a LCD.

I'd download IE, but it's not compatible with 64 bit vista. Regardless, i've no need for security right now anyway, i'm in Linux now

What? I have IE7 right now in Vista 64 and it's the 64 bit version (Sitting in Programs versus Programs (x86)).

Using FF at the moment. I use both as some sites look like A$$ with FF and some look like A$$ with IE.

Vista comes with IE...in fact, you can't get rid of it. You can make the shortcut disappear, but the fact is it is an integral part of the OS that can't be removed. (Same as earlier versions of Windows)

I'm just someone who hates the fact that they have to spend half their time making changes because IE doesn't manage to render correctly, and can't use new, cool technologies because people won't be able to use them if they use IE.

FF and IE have there share of problems

At my work FF has the most problems, with HTML, XML, JAVA SCRIPT and more time has been spent to make sure FF works, all the other browers we have tested here have little to no problem compare to FF.
Say what? That's simply not true. Firefox (or rather, Gecko) isn't the best in the world for standards compliancy (Opera probably holds that crown), but it is a mile ahead of IE.

If you didn't have noncompliant browsers, perhaps you wouldn't have a job!

LOL when it says "shipping" it makes it sound like MS is going to try to sell it...

I use IE7 mainly because it is every where...I have no choice but to use it at work, or at college computer labs (unless its the Mac lab...but no one ever goes in there), so why would I want to use some thing else at home?

I've never had any spyware either. Plus I tried to use FF before and I kept finding completely legit sites that would not load in FF. Probally because they used a plug in that FF did not work with.

Ofcorse I use FF on Linux though, but I don't do a whole lot of browsing on Linux.
