Default [OGB] Google Hits One Trillion Indexed Pages

Quote:
We've known it for a long time: the web is big. The first Google index in 1998 already had 26 million pages, and by 2000 the Google index reached the one billion mark. Over the last eight years, we've seen a lot of big numbers about how much content is really out there. Recently, even our search engineers stopped in awe about just how big the web is these days -- when our systems that process links on the web to find new content hit a milestone: 1 trillion (as in 1,000,000,000,000) unique URLs on the web at once!

I wonder how much storage space Google is using to store all of these index's..?

Good question, lets google what google uses to let us google stuff.

(Seriously, I am not kidding, I am going to google it now...)

Found a bunch of stuff at wiki.

1,000,000,000,000 seconds = ~31,000 years. So given 1 link per second 24/7 for your entire life, you wouldn't even make a dent

I would say 1/3 of the internet indexed is probably old tripod/geocities/whatever other free host there is out there with fan base pages for everything ranging from hamsters to dinosaurs. A large chunk of the internet is pretty much an archive of how its changed over there years lol....

Ah, but, if you were shown one every millisecond, then it would only take ~31 years.

It must be true, Google tells me so! http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...rch&meta=&aq=f

It also makes sense because 1 millisecond = 1x(10^-3) seconds
