developers should take the upgrade race into consideration..
they are costing us a bomb!! having to buy new H/W when they decide to tart up DX10 a few months after its release is fking stupid ![]() & if the difference is the same as our migration from DX9.....(a few shadows )it really is a cash cow! & the consumer has no hope.

yeah guys, it is pretty bad that DX10 isn't really going anywhere.
but imo, i don't think we will be seeing huge improvements in games anymore. look at crysis with everything all the way up (2fps..) and look at some HD footage of far cry 2. games look amazing nowadays, the actual jump from dx9 to dx10 was small, but to accomplish it was quite a feat. besides, i can't really see them using dx11 until some better (mainstream) hardware comes out that.

I brought my 8800 GT last year. Looks like it's going to be 6 months to a year before I buy another card. That card will probably be DX11. Games will not be using DX11 for quite awhile. By the time that happens it will also be time for us to upgrade our cards anyway.

I don't believe this to be true. My understanding is that DX11 will be made to run on existing DX10/10.1 hardware.

It doesn't say "DX11 not only supports DX11 hardware but also can support DX10 and DX10.1 hardware" From that statement, it is ambiguous still.

The way that sentence is structured, "hardware" is being associated to the types within the sentence.

Immediately following the figure in the op is a statement about multiple rendering contexts being beneficial to current gen hardware ie dx 10 and 10.1.
"This feature of DirectX 11 supports Direct3D 10-class and 10.1-class hardware, too, so changes made in the way applications render will benefit existing hardware."
