Where are you guys getting this info that counters the press releases information? I have read 3 times that DX11 works on DX10 and DX10.1 hardware. I have yet to see hard info to the contrary..

DirectX 11 will work on Windows Vista, and will also be compatible with existing DirectX 10 hardware

The recent news that DirectX 11 would be revealed this month caused a bit of backlash from some owners of DirectX 10 GPUs, who felt that they’ve hardly had a chance to use their hardware yet. However, Microsoft has revealed that DirectX 11 will be compatible with DirectX 10 and 10.1 hardware, as well as future DirectX 11-specific parts.
Shacknews:

# Full support (including all DX11 hardware features) on Windows Vista as well as future versions of Windows
# Compatibility with DirectX 10 and 10.1 hardware, as well as support for new DirectX 11 hardware
Gamasutra:

DirectX 10, which was first released in 2006, required DX10-specific hardware, creating a clearly-defined split between it and DX9. "We created a discontinuity; that was deliberate," Satchell said during his address, but DX11 will be compatible with DX10 hardware.

The way that sentence is structured, "hardware" is being associated to the types within the sentence.
Actually, the sentence is ambiguous because this makes perfect sense as well:

"DX11 not only supports DX11 hardware but also can support DX10 and DX10.1 software"

Note... why would DX11-specific hardware exist if DX11 works 100% on DX10 cards?

I answer that question with a question...Why make 'SLI ready' DDR2 memory if all DDR2 memory works with SLI?

I bet both of these questions share a similar answer...

SLi-ready memory is for the EPP support I believe.

Yeps..

and as for EPP: (maybe SLI ready power supplies would have made my point more clear, but...)

John Beekley is the VP of App Engineering and co-founder at Corsair:
Quote:
John Beekley: I wouldn't say Enhanced Performance Profiles make memory "better", because to me that implies a performance improvement.
DDR2, when introduced, made EPP possible, whereas DDR1 could not support it. 'SLI Ready' is pure marketing.....hell, if you look hard enough, I bet you could find an "SLI Ready Coffee cup"...I seem to remember "SLI Ready Jellybeans"...

My point is, they are saying current DX10 hardware will be able to run DX11....but upcoming hardware will have "made for DX11!" on the box. Helps sales....does not mean you need it. Unlike the DX9-DX10 jump, which had a hardware threshold.

I think DirectX 10 was definitely rushed. It didn't offer anything new really (apart from improved water effects in some games) and they really should have lumped DirectX 11 features in with it.

DX10 was to increase framerates and replace the API, DX11 is for image quality and continues on DX10 by including DX10 in itself. That is my hypothesis as to DX10's lack of visuals, seems supported by the info on DX11 so far.

Ok so

A) DX11 will work with DX10 hardware, as in we wont need new hardware to enable DX11 features.

B) Can I ask what games support DX10.1? other than assasins creed as theres no DIFFERENCE whatsoever lol.

Thanks
