Very smart, also liked what they did with the stereotype on the "PC Guy" in the beginning.
You said irregardless.

Admittedly better than the Seinfeld ads, but fundamentally no different.

Apple at least makes a token try (albeit unsubstantial) at explaining why you should buy their product over Windows. Microsoft continues to behave as if what they make is better simply because they made it, and feel they don't need to give any particular reason. This commercial, like the Seinfeld ones, can be easily deconstructed into, "Hey! We're Microsoft! BUY BUY BUY!".

Apple, tho, does the same with their iPod/iTunes products, as do most major manufacturers and companies (and rock bands, political parties, publishers, websites...). And it obviously works, so I guess it's fine.

Sir, you are missing the point of this ad. Let me explain:

If you notice in all of the "I am a Mac, and I am a PC" commercials, they use a young hip guy to portray the mac, while they chose to use an older guy with glasses to play the PC. What this does is target the younger audience (kinda like Nintendo does).

This is Microsoft's answer. Saying that the PC can be represented by anyone, hence "Windows without walls."

They want you to put more trust into windows. Windows is helpful in many ways for the end user. We all know that. For some reason people seem to think that Microsoft is somehow evil. These commercials are trying to provide evidence that they are not.

I was about to say that I've yet to see a single thing pushing XP over vista. Then I remembered that XP is no longer being produced. I guess they want to catch people who are to upgrade and may be thinking of going with a mac or something.
