vista x64 has so far been the most stable OS i've EVER used. the only time i've got the BSOD while on vista was when i pushed my videocard overclock too high

Well, Snow leopard is suppose to be accelerated by the GPU it has in it, kinda like CUDA only its built right into the OS.

You'd be surprised how many people still buy expensive things.

It does run games, and with Vista on it, it will run your engineering software..

In the early days it was, but Microsoft has done an extremely good job with it.

Personally I think most of the reason for Windows 7 is that it is a new name, not tied to Vista. The idiotic media was far too quick to slap a label on it. I can clearly remember CNN talking about it, and how it "requires a new hard drive, so you are better off getting a new computer".

Wow, when we talk about Linux's numbers in the server market, it never counts. But now we've gotta consider groups to make m$ look good.

Alright, but then there are gonna be people who want the system for video editing software. They're gonna say "I use my computer for other things than software engineering and playing with games."

I don't think he was talking about servers. More like what OS their thousands of employees use, which is usually some form of Windows (although, rarely Vista). Companies don't use linux because the IT department would have to be nearly as big as the rest of the workforce just to keep it running smoothly.



And then there are the people who will say "but I don't want to spend $2500 on a Mac Pro when I can buy an equal PC for half the price". I think there are a lot of people willing to use Premiere or Vegas if its going to save them $1000.


Apple is in the unique position where they control both hardware and software. Is it really Microsoft's fault that companies like Dell ship their OS with bloatware, or on computers that really have no business running Vista?

The vast majority of people who say they hate vista, or will never use vista, have probably never really tried it, or have had a bad experience once. My first real taste of Vista was with a laptop I ordered for my aunt. I found it slow and very buggy. That wasn't actually Vista though. The 5400rpm HDD made it slow, and the shovel ware Dell loaded onto it made it unstable. It was the same way with my Lenovo laptop.

I really think Microsoft should prohibit companies from slip-streaming crap onto their OEM CDs. Not only does it clutter the OS, I think it also destabilizes it. Even after removing the shovel ware the OS was still unstable.


I think Microsoft should release their own laptop. Partner up with AMD for a dual core Phenom II with ATI hybrid graphics. They could tune their OS specifically to the hardware like Apple does, and likely at a lower price. They could put apple to shame. Call it an Xbox portable or something
