I used to use Diskeeper all the time until I discovered AusLogics degrag, which takes a fraction of the time to run.

I remember it was an option with norton speedisk something like 10 years ago.
Most people are partitioning the drive with a small logical drive at the front and sticking the page file on it. Set it and forget it.

AFAIK, pagefile access is random, not sequential, so there is a slight performance benefit in having the pagefile on a separate physical drive because the file can be read independent of the actuator arm movement of the OS drive.

Having the pagefile on a separate partition on the same physical drive is not going to provide any advantage because the arm still has to move between partitions on the same drive. Positioning it at the very beginning of the drive may be slightly beneficial, but only if the size is set to be static, otherwise it will fragment and spread out all over the drive.

Back on topic: been running Diskeeper 2009 Pro on a spare system since yesterday, and it's excellent. Defrag times seem to be much shorter, and the inclusion of i-faast is welcome. I-faast is supposed to accelerate file access based on frequency of usage, so it will take some time to monitor and kick in. I think the SSD support in DK2009 is the first to appear in a defragger, and is a good way to futureproof, for those of us who are awaiting an SSD pricedrop before we swoop in . Conclusion: thumbs up for a solid update to DK2008.
