Default [techcrunch] Ballmer’s CES Keynote Promises To Be A Snoozer

Quote:
Ballmer is a high-energy guy who can be entertaining to watch, but Microsoft just doesn't have anything exciting to announce this year. When Ballmer takes the [CES] stage at the Venetian in Las Vegas on Wednesday night it is going to be hard for the audience to stay awake no matter how much he yells at them.

Here's what Ballmer will "announce" at CES:
* Windows 7, the successor to Vista, will officially enter public beta (you can already read about it here).
* Windows Mobile will support Flash by the end of the first quarter. (This was demoed at an Adobe conference in November).
* Two new Halo titles will be released for the xBox in 2009 (something else we know already, whoopee).
* Home networking made easy! (I'm not kidding. This Microsoft's big advance, making it easy for multiple PCs in your home to find each other and share files.).

The above quote is in brief. For a bit more of a read, click the source link for the complete article.

And LOL @ "Home networking made easy!". Sure, it'll probably have -some- use, but is networking really that hard? Shouldn't be.

You do realize normal people have NO IDEA how to set up a home network right?

Haha, yeah I do. That's why I say it'll at least have some use.

When it comes to said 'normal people' and networking, I really don't mind if they don't understand IP addresses and the like.. But hey, windows file sharing isn't all that hard to set up on XP.. I at least try and teach them basics, but in these people's defense, I can understand tech not being their cup of tea.

Maybe the home networking means more fixes and automation. I know I had headaches setting up networking in a house of 8 computers all running various windows versions and builds (xp, xp sp1, vista, xbox, ps3, linux, etc.) That was pre Vista SP1.

Maybe its all they want you do think they are announcing?

For all we know he could pull a Steve Jobs and be all like "Oh, and heres our new portable xbox, available now at microsoft.com" only with a lot more yelling and screaming, maybe while jumping over a dozen parked cars on a motorcycle.
