Only for cable... fiber optic ISPs aren't pulling this kind of crap. I hope they expand their range of service to my area soon.

Increasing transit and peering costs are to blame for capping of services, we in the UK have lived with it for years now, and while we don't like it there is solid reasoning behind it. Am i saying that ISP's are justified 100%? far from it, but it's not charge for the sake of charging and cap for the sake of profit.

And if you don't understand the ISP side of transit and peering costs then you probably should look it up before demonising companies for having to put structure in place to limit usage following the introduction of faster services allowing for greater bandwidth usage.

Jeez, get over yourselves already. Its a light hearted joke, ive never understood why Americans get all defensive.
At least when someone says something like that about their country they take it as a joke and laugh along with it because its somewhat true.

Anyway, I don't get what they are stating. Instead of getting cut off when you go over your cap if you one or over your fair useage policy you get charged?
Whats the biggie?

1) Its like a mobile contract, go over your minutes and pay by the minute etc
2) Go over your fair useage policy and get blocked or capped? How many of you actually get capped or disconnected for a bit because of this? (Comcast users not included)

Welcome to the stone-age you mean. It's curious how European countries see unlimited traffic with flat rates for FastEthernet wirespeed internet... Granted, 100mbps is only for internal ISP/ISP coalition traffic but it's usually enough so that a 'rest of the world' 5GB limit is never reached even by power-users

You know, this wouldnt be such a big deal if the ISPs could provide better service in General, I know not everyone suffers from it... but Comcast in Northeaster Massachusetts is god damn terribled... Both the Internet and Cable TV... I dont get how they can advertise 10mpbs internet then say speeds will vary, not guarantee uninterupted service, not offer credits when outtages are THERE fault, Throttle users who constantly download/have hi internet useage. But then feel as though theyre not making enough money, and now want to set caps to charge more and more.

Personally I dont download much, other than updates, but think about it, I get stuck with a 10gb cap, and do a reinstall of windows, I have to download all the updates, then through steam all the games, L4D, CS:S, HL2, etc... then forget about WoW... Ill burn that up in a day or two tops. Ill be paying because I needed to reinstall my OS? Its friggin Bogus.

Yeah the rest of the world puts up with it, but Americans Don't put up with that kind of BS, its the Society we live in.

Use Steam's backup utility to back up all those Steam games to DVDs.
