if youre running the beta now youll notice its considered "Windows 7 Ultimate" so I have a feeling there will be various multiple versions

Thats true, though thats the same deal as the Starter Edition for Vista which I assume will be the same for W7. Discluding the Starter Editions there are 4 versions of Vista/W7 and 4 versions of XP including the 64-bit.

If they are listening to the community they will release 2 versions. A 32bit, super low end PC optimized version. And a 64bit full fledged version. Anything else is preposterous at this point.

I don't think its that big of a deal to have multiple versions, but i think Home basic should get the boot to avoid confusion.
Theres just about as many versions of Vista as there are XP except Ultimate which is really pointless if you ask a lot of people.

This is a step in the wrong direction. The last thing people want when they are buying a new computer is to have poorly explained choices of an operating system (arguably the most important part of your computer).
If MS can somehow get all of the average computer users understand the differences between them, that'd work out, but they haven't really done a good job with that in the past.

the only one that deserves a boot is home basic imo and they should just rename it as Windows 7 Home
every other version has it's place the way i see it its only home basic that is totally and utterly useless

Wow this is pretty stupid. Why can't they just stick with 2-3 versions.

What's the problem? This makes perfect sense. Why would someone who wants a basic OS have to pay the price of the fully featured product? Averaging the value to the contents, and making people pay the same price would be really awful.
