I think Windows Seven Home For netbooks with no aero and Windows seven premium with aero support.

As somebody has noted earlier, multiple versions not only confuse the customer, but also, it seems, microsoft staff. Furthermore, the differences between the different versions is many times unclear, especially to the average user. Because the majority of users are not exactly tech saavy, having one basic version and one full version (or, in my opinion, even just one version) would cause the least confusion and give the most people what they need in an OS. Any stripping down of an OS (for performance, business environments, etc) can be done by administrators, or those that are tech saavy enough to know how.

The problem is, this software is likely to range anywhere from $50 to $500. Their lowest end version is tailored for very low end computers, ie: a netbook. The other end of the spectrum is meant for power users. If the prices were averaged, someone who wants to buy a netbook is now paying $200 more.

As they did before, the "Home" edition will be marketed as their general purpose OS. While their Ultimate will be for those who are tech savvy. The other versions are likely not going to be put at the front of the store.

Whatever versions they do come out with, I just hope they are all 64bit and leave the 32bit in the past.

Someone already proved that in the past there were more than 2-3 versions. How can they just "stick with 2-3 versions" if there were more than 2-3?

Sure there was XP starter, home, media, and then professional. But the only mainstream versions were XP home and professional.

vista has all of the whack versions on their main line. That is the problem. You've got home basic, home premium, home business, home ultimate... Come on. We all know now that it was an excuse to raise the price of the full version compared to the preceding OS.

surely they have noticed all the teasing and complaints regarding to many versions of Vista, surly they wont make this same mistake with 7, imo they should kill Starter edition, and Basic, and even business, and just have Home Premium, and Ultimate and enterprise
and all should be 64-bit versions of windows 7 that way their are only 3 versions of windows 7 but thats i really think they should just have Windows 7 Ultimate and not as costly as Vista and leave it at that (64-bit only)

To me, Windows 7 Starter should be for the xbox 360. And don't forget this is still vista without the "Vista Name" and a couple of changes.
