Default [Engadget] Multiple Windows 7 Versions coming?

SOURCE

Quote:

These pictures supposedly come from a new build of the Windows 7 beta, 7025. It goes without saying that while we knew this was a possibility, we've been seriously wishing against it. We hope these are fake (and they very well could be), but seriously Microsoft... don't even think about this.

Groan.

How about two? XP was quite a bit less confusing in this regard.

From wikipedia:

Quote:
Vista Starter has significant limitations, such as only allowing a user to launch three applications with a user-interface at once, not accepting incoming network-connections, and a physical-memory limit of 1 GB. It retails only as a 32-bit system.[5] It supports only AMD's Athlon XP, Duron, Sempron and Geode processors, and Intel's Celeron, Pentium III processors and certain models of Pentium 4. The usable portion of the hard disk has a limit of 250 GB. Starter Edition comes with some desktop-wallpapers not found in other versions of Vista.

In my opinion, the versions system Vista used was bad, but it shouldn't just be one version. A system like XP would work best I think. Maybe something like Starter (a stripped down version for cheap netbooks), Home (being Home Premium, the version most people will use), and Ultimate (being the Ultimate we know today, including everything you might want) would most likely work best. Who uses Home Basic, Business and Enterprise anyway? My friend told me that he called MS for a new Vista Business key because his had been used too many times or something, and the guy at customer service laughed at him saying there was no Vista Business, meaning even MS itself is getting confused.

Windows 7 should be more than the transition OS MS is making it look like, they're making some great changes, so this should be one of them.

Starter really sucks. At least a student could run the internet for research whiles running Word while playing music in the background. They'd have to forget about using MSN lol

Here are the editions that I believe would be best:

Windows 7 core Edition - No Aero support whatsoever. Kind of like Vista Starter Edition

Windwos 7 Premium edition - The normal version like how XP Home was

Windows 7 Elite Edition - Basically like Ultimate or XP Pro

Might as well go with the XBOX360 naming

There are more than two versions of XP.

XP Starter (yes there was one)
XP Home Edition
XP Pro
XP Media Center Edition
XP 64

The way I look at it

XP Starter = W7 Starter
XP Home Edition = W7 Home Basic
XP Media Center = W7 Home Premium
XP Pro = W7 Business
XP Pro + XP Media Center = W7 Ultimate

W7 Ultimate is really the only extra version of W7 when compared to XP.
