I'd be under the 100GB cap I believe. I presume that's monthly? Does anyone know of any good bandwidth monitoring programs? I'd like to see my usage.

Unfortunately I can't switch, it's either Charter, AT&T, or Northland. They all suck.
And guys it doesn't matter if you use 100GB a month or not, if you don't use it, you'll lose it, eventually if they wanted to they could go down to 50GB because not many people are hitting the 100 limit, just so they can pull more money out of your pocket for going over their "limit". All this is, is a way to keep their current infrastructure, using you the consumer to fatten their wallets.

God DAMN I wish Verizon FiOS was offered here in the chicagoland area!!!! I doubt Verizon will cap their service. Soon they will be pretty much the only major ISP without caps, and that will get them a lot of extra business in the long run.

If FiOS ever comes to my area, I will definitely make the switch. I think most people who understand what's going on (with caps) would do the same. As has been said, this is only a way for them to increase profit to satisfy share holders and to stop Netflix and Hulu from cutting into their cable TV profits. The MSO's and telcos have been asked repeatedly to prove they have a "bandwidth crunch" on their networks. Not one of them has yet to provide any evidence. AT&T did release one report but the report did not indicate any severe bandwidth crunch whatsoever, contrary to what their PR people claimed. And, they are wanting to charge $1 per GB overage. Do you know how much it costs them for 1 GB of backbone bandwidth? It's around 5 CENTS. Quite a mark up. This is almost as bad as the cellular carriers' "text messaging" racket.

I am currently using (and hating) Charter, but my only other option is AT&T.

If you have a router, I would check and see if it is flashable with Tomato. If so, Tomato has excellent bandwidth monitoring ability (both up and down, and even by device).

Since everyone is getting a broadband cap and obviously NOT getting the speed that they're paying for a month, then these companies need to lower the bill. It'd be like paying $300 for an 8400 GS -- you're just not getting what you pay for, at least I'm not.

I was extremely happy with Wave Broadband. They were a locals only ISP here in town, but got bought out by Charter. When I was still under Wave, I was paying 42.99 for 10MBPS internet. Once Charter took over they "made some changes" and lowered my internet to 6MBPS at the same price, and if I wanted the 10MBPS, I could pay 60.00 a month.
What a great way to keep customers satisfied right?
