Try it anyways, the emulator is really more CPU dependant than GPU

Edit: I've been playing FFX-2 for 2 hours now, constantly at 60FPS and using 16xAA. Extremely impressed, also the FMVs work great and at full speed

That is where you run into legal problems. Downloading a BIOS that isn't yours is illegal. There are sites that host them, but it is considered illegal and I can't mention them. The only real way to do it legally is to use the programs on their site to rip the BIOS from your PS2.

you're thinking of DNAS, the "DRM-like" thing that is present in all PS2 games that have online. When you connect to the online servers to play online, your PS2 will run DNAS to check to see if your hardware has not been modded and that the game has not been burned.

I have tried it before with WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2006, and ripping the DVD to an .iso file works with PCSX2

It's CPU and GPU dependent. The way it's coded strongly favors nvidia cards (The devs use them). I was able to play games very smooth on my old 9600gt, my 4850 and 4870 both run it horribly, to the point where its unplayable.

This version has pretty significant graphical performance improvements over 0.9.4 and most games run A LOT faster.
