I've been using Avira for a couple years, love it.
Just make sure if you're using the free version to disable the ads that pop up when it updates. To do so... go to the avira folder and find the program called avnotify.exe -right click it -properties -security -remove its security rights to "read and execute" No more popups.

Avira rocks
Avg used to be good but it got bloated and the free version often failed to update.

I use avira on all my rigs. Best anti virus I have ever used. And I have used almost all of them. AVIRA FTW.

I'm surprised they managed to install than many antiviruses without one of them partially destroying the system...
Best antivirus still remains common sense, it won't give you any false positives and it won't lock you out of your own system like most antiviruses seem to do, and it doesn't cause any extra load on the OS.

I don't like in Avast that it stops the scan when it finds a virus or something. I want my scan to finish then give me a report on what I need to fix. Maybe I'm missing a setting or something but that bugged me so much I have gone to no AV for the time being. I like Norton Internet Security 2009 because it uses almost no resources, but don't want to pay for it...
