Yeah, something isn't right with OCN these days. I don't know what's going on, but it's kinda sad.

What are you saying? Are you assuming that mothow knowingly reposted this to get some Rep points? If so, then that's interesting. It's not interesting regarding mothow, but regarding you.

Well I can see both sides to the argument here. I'm going to assume the OP did not know this was a respot, I do not see any reason to suggest otherwise. Searches may not work well, if at all sometimes. Different sources, different titles and tags etc, sometimes you really think that what you are posting is new.

In all honesty a repost here and there is nothing, no big deal. Therefore I can see why people would sometimes get annoyed if someone shouts 'repost!' especially if it was useful to some, like it was to TwoCables. However, there are some reasons why its reasonable to report/avoid resposts:

1) having one thread means discussion regarding that topic is focused in one place. Presumably this would help create one central discussion that would be more interesting and beneficial than the two separate discussions on their own.

2) some people search often and constantly for news articles to post here, in the hope it interests OCN members and also for rep. Not everyone does it for rep, but some people do which is fair enough. In that situation, someone reposting would 'take' away rep from the original poster, which may be considered unfair by some. I do realise that if a repost helps someone who did not see the 'original' post, that the reader may want to rep the reposter since it did benefit them. However drawing a line between whether or not the person would have seen the original post depends too much on the specifics of that particular instance, and you cannot propose a situation which would apply to every single member.

3) if resposts were ignored completely, you may eventually end up with the situation in which there are four to five resposts of the same article in the news section. If this happened, it would be problematic for obvious reasons, and mods would have to spend time to clean it up quite regularly.

So that's (presumably) why the repost rule is there, and why its needed. I do understand why at times it may not work, and why people are annoyed at it (particularly the poster who is only trying to help with new news) but it is required. The correct method is just simply to report it to the mods, or by posting one message kindly alerting the op that it is a repost. Which is what Jaded did, so I think he did the right thing. However I can also see why TwoCables *might* be annoyed, as this post was news to him (and me as well!).

In the end, its no big deal guys. The rule might not work out very well, but there's a reason why its there. So you cannot blame people for making note of it, as long as they are polite and logical about it. Some people do tend to go a bit far with the 'repost posts' but its not that troublesome most of the time. We all need to chill out a bit more.

Very well said. Thank you for taking the time to share this wisdom. I read it carefully, and I'm quite honestly glad I did. So yes: thank you!

Well, I'm not even sure if CPUID knows: they said that it's "planned for june 2009" (lowercase by them, not me), but I saw no more information regarding specifics. Oh well. I just hope I catch the thread that gets created when it's released because I will definitely need a reminder.
