Well, I have 60GB of FLAC and you don't re-rip from this. 250GB is so cheap right now. Just because not everyone can use it, doens't mena no-one will use it

I also agree that its going to suck. I am also a lossless lover, I like all my CD's ripped in ALAC and in my nicely organised iTunes library.

This "Unlimited Downloads" service will be total crap because the major record labels won't let Virgin make all their stuff available on it for some stupid little monthly fee when they can make over £10 per album on a new release.

Well, £20 a month for what Universal can offer isn't enough. As in with VM's connections you could easily have the entire collection within a day or two.

So, yeah, I'd say £20 is pushing it.

Exactly, so thats why its not going to be what it says on the tin.

I mean say £20 a month and you could download the entire universal catalogue in what? A couple of days?

Thats gotta be the equivilant to thousands spent on actually buying the albums and they reckon for £20 you could have it all?

Nah, its just not going to happen.

EDIT: On the news they reckon it will cost "A few pounds"

Just seems unrealistic for just one label, now think of several!

I can see stealth introductory prices, too. It starts at £20, 6 months later it's £30 and so on and so forth. At this point you see piracy figures begin the rise again (if piracy were measureable) if this even takes off at all.

I've said it before and I reckon it's worth mentioning again, but:

Give me a P2P program with a competant, non-invasive DRM, run by labels with a reasonable monthly fee of around abouts £10 (I'd personally favour lower numbers, because honestly, it's cheaper than that for a Rapidshare account) and I'd be all over it.

We need, nay, want, to see labels and film firms competing with piracy, instead of failing to crush it. They need to use every dirty trick in the book to get rid of piracy and everything done needs to be naught but good for the consumer. They can price fix and do all kinds of shadey stuff to get rid of piracy, because piracy has no legal rights.

EDIT:

And let's face it, they've been shafting us for years, it's about time they did something decent for us.

I guess we can share FLAC files now more often.

Until Virgin or another ISP get rights to all movies, all TV and all music all this monthly fee rubbish will fail, I personally would be happy to pay £5-10 a month to download as much as I want. Until this is the case I will carry on with the best digital distribution service available.
