Default [BBC]Anti-piracy music deal for Virgin

Virgin and Universal have signed a deal that will give the ISP's customers access to "unlimited" music.

For a monthly fee, Virgin's broadband customers will be able to download or stream as many MP3 files as they want.

As part of the deal, Virgin has pledged to aggressively police usage to stop the MP3 tracks turning up on file-sharing networks.

Virgin said it was in talks to add other music firms' back catalogues to the service.

Unlimited as in every track in the world or unlimited as in a narrow range of tracks?

Fail.

FLAC, please, and how much is this fee? Anything near £10 a month is too much, because people get more than that in better quality for FREE. And FREE is the clincher there.

Also, there's no-one on Universal Records that I want to hear.

Virgin are becoming fail. Where is Richard Branson to come and pimp slap his CEO's when you need him?

I do agree with your flac comment. Personally I won't be signing up for a service like this until I can get full uncompressed audio at LEAST as good as CD quality.

But this is a good direction for the music industry.

I just smell fail because I see an overpriced service that will lack significantly.

But I do think it's a step in the right direction, but it may end up being one step forward, two steps backwards.

(atm I can actually smell Spagetti cooking, not fail. Spagetti is not fail =D)

it's sad when this will be not good enough for the majority. pirates will just keep on making excuses as to why they are entittled to have more than being offered. i.e. non flac, not enough titles etc...

IMHO looks like a good service but will not help piracy. too many ignorant brats that always want more and more.

"Those signing up will be able to put the tracks on any music player and keep the music they have downloaded even if they stop paying the monthly fee. "

*waits for 'free offer'. Downloads everything in 1 month. Cancel subscription. Hmmm......?

I have spotify for streaming though. I don't mind the ads, and if they offer a subscription that does downloads as well I'd rather go through them than virgin. Because virgin are ****.

Anyway. I see this being upwards of £30 extra a month, on top of your existing cable charges. Only the rich people will buy this and it will create a poor person piracy manhunt.

There's no way I'd ever join virgin media, even if they offered free music for everyone. I don't like their policy of monitoring connections, and their stance on piracy. I've no problem with a company (e.g. EMI) catching me if I've pirated something by entering the swarm on a torrent, but I really don't like ISPs snooping on my connection like that and watching what I download e.t.c
Sky broadband ftw
