just give her the death sentence and take every penny she owns like you know the RIAA would like to. At least they got one of those things.

hmm i have 3 pirated songs $80,000 USD x 3 = $240000 USD

with a high chance of settling for about $3000-$5000

hmm good thing i am not in America, havn't heard about any Australians being sued over music piracy, only a few unlucky souls got jailed over software piracy

(not that Americas bad, was just stating this as a i'm safe thing)

but nothing about music piracy

i don't pirate software, so im safe from that

wow, $80,000 a song. So hypothetically if i had downloaded 6337 songs I would owe $506,960,000.

Wow...

I wonder how they do jury selection.

Attorney: "Do you have a computer?"
Potential Juror: "Yes."
Attorney: "Your honor, this juror is obviously and blatantly biased against the RIAA. We will not allow him/her."

"Have you ever listened to music?"
Potential Juror: "Yes."
Attorney: "Your honor, this juror is obviously and blatantly biased against the RIAA. We will not allow him/her."

That's the only way I can see 12 human beings fine a mother of 4 for nearly 2 million for TWENTY FOUR SONGS. TWENTY FOUR!

Did no body in this thread actually read the friggin article? I didnt look through every page of posts but judging by the first 40 or so, no one did.
Quote:
Cara Duckworth, a spokeswoman for the RIAA, said the industry remains willing to settle. She refused to name a figure, but acknowledged Thomas-Rasset had been given the chance to settle for $3,000 to $5,000 earlier in the case.

This case was the only one of more than 30,000 similar lawsuits to make it all the way to trial. The vast majority of people targeted by the music industry had settled for about $3,500 each. The recording industry has said it stopped filing such lawsuits last August and is instead now working with Internet service providers to fight the worst offenders.

Yes, I did, but the offer a settlement should NOT weigh in on the jury's decision. They shouldn't even know about it, actually.

"Hey, buddy, if you give me your wallet I'll only stab you a FEW times."
"No!"
"Oh, fine, you asked for it! I'm gonna stab you a BUNCH of times!"

It's sad, but I hope the mother kills herself over this and the media blasts that all over our TV. "Recording Industry Kills Mother of Four" could be the headline.

You understand that the jury is the one that imposed the high fines here, not the RIAA? The RIAA was willing to settle.
