A federal judge allowing a corporate interest group to decimate a private citizen and her family with a law suite she couldn't even hope to pay off in the next 7 lifetimes over maybe $30 worth of media? When she goes bankrupt and is forced to go on welfare a judge going to allow them to take that too?

Ok guys, a lady sued McDonalds when she spilled hot coffee on her lap and won millions. So don't put anything past our court system.
Should pirates be punished when caught? Yes. Should pirates be fined more than the cost of the music? Absolutely. Else there would be no real "punishment" involved. Should anyone have to pay a couple million dollars for pirating music? No. And this lady will not have to either.

I see some user on here proud to pirate. I ask them, instead of blaming everything on a corrupt government and money stealing record executives, when are you and the rest of the pirates willing to accept accountability? I mean, if it's against the law and you knowingly break it then...it's really no one's fault but your own. Not trying to fight nor do I agree with the fine in the OP but c'mon.

Didn't anybody read the article? It says the RIAA person said they had offered to settle for $3k - $5k and they were still willing to settle. And you can't compare it to breaking into a music store and stealing.... i think the thought behind the high fines per song is that they are saying that her music sharing enabled thousands to get the songs for free. Still with the ridiculous amount of money record companies make, I think they can absorb the losses..... The thing about this is, that it just makes the honest people pay more because the record companies will just raise the prices......

you know this could backfire on them; if she takes her life as a way out of this insanity the RIAA and the music industry as a whole will have a serious public relations problem.

Well, in the beginning, the settlements with the RIAA are pretty silly, and nothing but racketeering on the RIAA's part, but if after the trial they were still willing to do so, then that's actually pretty cool.
