Yeah, but the last thing MS needs is a reason not to buy Windows. They've been unfairly placed in a nasty position due to Vista. 7 really needs to instill confidence in the market again, not to mention get people off of XP It's gotta be near perfect this time.

In all honesty, the best choice for microsoft is to include a handful of their competitors browsers on the installation dvd. Is this right? No. But its better than having a bunch of other(not to say all or even the majority) dumb europeans getting upset with microsoft because of a decision they didn't make.

That is unless it required a second dvd, but if they just take up extra space not being used, then its really not that big of a deal. If anything, instead of forcing microsoft to record the installation process, just put a bunch of install files in a "Browser" folder.

Or, instead of an install disc, they could just include a piece of paper with a download link to Ubuntu. And it would include a smiley face picture, saying "Enjoy!"

linux is just not ready for users yet, and even it it does become ready, it wont stand up to Microsoft, or even Apple as a desktop operating system any way

and even Apple only have 9% market share, so unless they pick up the pace they will be out of the operating system market in next 5-10 years granted they are doing well as a company but not so well in the desktop area

of course the tides could easily turn and Apple could get ahead

(don't flame me as a fanboy because i am not that)
I'm not going to flame you as a fanboi. I'm going to flame you as a troll. This is about the EU restricting a browser due to monopolies. Not the competition of competing operating systems, how linux is still immature and how inevitably microsoft will be a true monopoly. It's simply uncalled for and derails the thread.

(Chrome does not work via FTP apparently)

3. Download it and then run the installer.

This has been a feature of Windows Explorer since as far back as XP IIRC.
That won't work because Explorer integrates IE right into it's code.

You don't get to do that without IE installed.

I think if anyone tries to open a web page, such as in explorer, there should be an EU ID10T error page informing the user that the EU decided the consumer gets no internet with their physical addresses since they cannot email.

And yet, what I find moronic about this is that without a browser in the first place, it isn't possible to download any others such as Opera and Firefox.

Even if the user does end up downloading IE8 again, it's still going to be using the functionality that the European Union frowned upon and that's making use of Windows Update. Which is quite an integral part of the operating system...

And even for the average joe user that'll be a challenge.

This really could ruin the sales of W7.
