The question of how retail versions of Win7E will check for updates and patches during installation still remains unanswered, although the company confirmed that, even if installed after the operating system, Internet Explorer 8 would still integrate fully with the operating system.

"IE8 will still have access to updates and patches through Windows update which will ensure users are always up to date whilst browsing the web," added the spokesperson.

Maybe give them a little server that you can submit your browser to. Then have an app to allow you to browse it and pick a browser to download.

Is this as a whole browser sort of thing or just no IE allowed? If not, just strike up some kind of deal with Google, isn't Chromium open source?

it's a good plan that, but then bundling Firefox / Chrome with Windows could really impact IE's marketshare and it's not likely they want to do that

Plus MS would have to negioate contracts with Mozilla and Google.
Plus MS would have to worry about updates to these 3rd party apps.
Plus Opera, Safari, etc would sue that they were not included.

Licht's approached would be the best.... use FTP or some open standard to connect to an special software server and allow users to download what they need.
