Well, the money for legal fee's have to come from some where, I guess this is MS's way of saying "this is what happens when you sue us, we have to raise prices to make up for our costs".

I doubt I'll be buying this. I'll more than likely stick with my current OS's, they'll do fine for many years to come until I either need to upgrade or the prices come down.

Have MS made any official comments regarding the price differences?

Just my opinion, but it seems silly to hear people making comments about the EU as a whole, that we deserve this. I've lived in a member country all my life, and I can't think of a single reason why I or any member of my family would deserve to be charged 100% extra for windows 7 ultimate...

I'd be happy enough with 30-40% mark up, 100% seems a little excessive.

It is a combination of several factors, IMO.

1. The antitrust case. If people don't understand that the money paid is an expense and will be recouped . . . I would suggest taking a course in economics. I for one hope the pricing in the rest of the world is not paying for this fine, and only the EU customers are paying it.

2. The current way tax monies are spent in the EU countries. Healthcare etc. is not free therefore they have a larger tax burden.

3. Protectionism is also playing a role in the form of tarriff's.

4. Loss of revenue due to revenue gained from the use of IE8 and the search MS search engine.

The exchange rate argument makes no snse. If anything a USA product should be less as Euro is worth quite a bit more, making goods produced here actually cheaper.

Same thing with Adobe CS4 suite... It was worked out that you could get a return flight to the U.S and buy a copy over there for less than or the same price as it costs over here
