Post [techspot]11 awesome applications you've never heard of

http://www.techspot.com/news/35307-1...-heard-of.html

The average PC user has a dozen or so applications which they completely swear by – and rightfully so. What gets the job done is what matters the most. There is, however, a treasure-trove of pint-sized utilities and fully blown applications just waiting to be discovered. We’ve scoured the Web to provide a list of 11 useful programs which you’ve probably never heard of.

All of the programs in this article are either absolutely free of charge or have a free alternative, so don’t hesitate to give them a shot and see what you’ve been missing out on. We hope that by the end of this list, you’ll have discovered at least one application that fills a void you didn't even know existed.

Most of those are provided in Windows, or I don't need them. The only one that interested me was DVD Flick. Good find, though!

Yeah, good find.

Although I don't see the use for all these Windows Explorer-type programs.

I found an application that I will probably never be able to live without - and I really didn't think I would. It's PicPick! Since I take so many screenshots to help me help other OCN members, this is going to come in quite handy. My favorite part is how I can capture the active window. Nice.

Vista has Snipping Tool...

The active window capture has been a Windows function for over a decade. Hitting ALT+PrintScreen will do it.

I love it how many people don't know about that.

Decent finds there. Wonder how the Maxto would work, might have to give it a try later.

Thank you. Once I saw PicPick, I had a feeling that there was a keyboard shortcut for it.

But, I may still try PickPick as it has some features that I think I might be able to take advantage of (other than capturing the active window, of course).

Thanks again, though. I'm really glad I said something there. I'm going to use the crap out of it now.

I used Launchy until I got Vista in mid 2008. The startmenu search is good enough for my needs(occasional search for application that is not on the desktop)

But anyway, it was an awesome app.
