Default [THG] Which Belongs On Your Netbook? Win XP or 7?

Quote:
Aside from that, Windows 7 provides a much more pleasant user experience on a netbook than Vista ever did. While its updated user interface adds several new features, Microsoft has also made many changes under the hood that aren’t as visible to the user. Where functionality and feature set are concerned, the new version has the upper hand anyway, if not now, then in the future. At some point, newer technologies will no longer be made available for Windows XP via patchs, hacks, or service packs. Also, since Microsoft has already terminated mainstream support, companies are less and less likely to provide drivers for new products that work with the aging OS. Like it or not, the future belongs to Windows 7. Hopefully, IHVs share this view and will provide newer drivers even for older hardware.
Source

I was pretty disappointed to see just how much power Win 7 consumes compared to XP but to be fair THG was using Win 7 Build 7100 (not sure if there's any improvements in battery consumption with the latest build).

Personally I wouldn't install Win 7 on a netbook. My friend has a Core 2 notebook with 1GB RAM and feels slightly sluggish even with visual effects turned off as well as all the unnecessary services/ processes.

Windows XP - 2:10
Windows 7 - 3+

My experience with a Lenovo S10 w/ 3 cell battery. Did I mention Windows 7 is much faster too?

I guess improvements were made for battery consumption in the newer builds. Btw, my friend is still using Build 7068, that probably explains why Win XP felt better overall. :P

Because I can't run the applications I need under Linux

Only because of poor driver optimization. If Linux gains more support people will make better drivers.

yeah, its the same story with people talking about apple and gaming, it just wont happen, unless there is a huge shift in market share. Not that I wouldn't like seeing both of those things happening, I love using linux and learning more about it, and I know a lot of people with Macs that would love to game on them. I say give it 10 years and see how far things go, maybe it will change.
