Because it's easier, safer, and doesn't carry near the amount of risk/penalty? Personally, I'd prefer having brains to balls.

I think this says something positive about the world of EVE, anytime your simulated economy suffers from the same kind of socially driven disasters as real economies can then that implies a well done simulation.
