He was running that 'bank' for years. I doubt it was his plan all along to snag it, but hey, when it's sitting in front of you and you've got bills.........I understand =p. Anyway, no not 'easy'. There are few people in a position to be able to snag that much cash.

Perfectly fine w/ the eula btw.

Jewelry grade diamond has no use to society either. If you think about it, alot of "useless" things fetch a pretty penny, even in real life.

And guys, seriously, making real life money in MMORPGs will probably earn you less than if you spend the same time on a minimum paying job.

True... how long was this guy playing eve to get into that position to steal that much?

And also... how much do you need to buy a titan? I think he had enough... not that he should build it... they would just try to blow it up.

Considering the time it took him to farm the cash, he would probably earn more if he just get a job in the same time period.

He was quite a well respected eve player, the bank is run by the most trusted eve businessmen. The general idea is that they won't scam because their reputation is worth more than they could scam, but in this case one of them had a price, 3k euros.

A titan is probably 100B or so, although getting one build takes time and people. 200B is enough to somehow acquire one of the 147 titans in the game though I'm sure...

It's suspected that some of the richest players have upwards of 1T isk, but this 200B scam is definitely the largest in eve history, and 200B definitely put him in the top 100 richest in eve. (out of 300k, not bad). Of course CCP immediately banned his account when they found out about the RMT aspect of his scam, and I'm sure the people he sold the isk to were the ones who ended up getting scammed the worst.

Actually, not all ways of buying money in eve does not actually break the EULA. You can buy 1-month subscriptions from other players using in-game money. There is actually an in-game item you trade to do it. However, trading isk for cash direcly does break the EULA. 1B isk is worth about $20 if you buy it, though selling it to those companies gets you about $14 per 1B isk.

And this is why you never trust un-official banks. Though there is one that essentially has FDIC coverage by CCP (people who make EvE).
