America must be doing horribly in Iraq then, because that is all the news reports. Lets not talk about the rebuilding we have done, how happy the citizens are that we have given them a country that is actually safe to live in, lets not talk about how we defeated an entire army in one week.....because none of that actually has happened, since it wasn't in the news that is.

Wait, does Afghanistan even exist? That place is NEVER in the news!

You can receive direct deposit from your employer (an electronic transfer of funds). With your electronic funds you can exchange them for Paypal funds. With your paypal funds you can purchase real things. The method of payment was all electronic.

I'd be pissed if my boss tried to pay me with EVE currency, wouldn't you?
Digital currency in your bank are accepted in trades because they have a locked exchange rate. (e.g. 1 U.S. dollar virtual currency exchanges into 1 U.S. dollar in real life, with no fluctuations ever). That means vendors don't need to worry about whether or not the currency will be worth less after the transaction. More importantly, the example failed for you because you completely failed to grasp the point of it.

The point isn't that EVE currency is equivalent to electronic funds in all functional aspects. The point is simply that they are both transferable into real cash, therefore they both hold value. How liquid they are is inconsequential in the argument.

And if only "directly" exchangeable data is considered of value, then NASDAQ stocks much be completely worthless since they're traded electronically and can't be "directly" exchanged into cash. They have to be sold in order to change into cash, just like EVE currency.

LOL...I remember back in the day before Euros the big joke arround Ultima Online was that a piece of UO gold had more value than several real world currencies. Real estate too...I sold one of my castles for over $1300 on ebay and depening on your monitor size a castle was roughly 15x15 inches I think. How much real land sells for that?

I never sold gold though. Just a few houses.

I'll never understand why people do it. It's like if a new single player game came out that had a downloadable save game file for sale that would put you at the final boss. Why even buy the game if your not going to play it? Amassing credits is part of playing Eve Online. If you don't want to play the game....just don't play.

What ever...I think they could get the guy for ingame greifing and breaching the EULA, but I don't think he did any thing illeagal. Inmoral, yes, and if he took my credits I'd would have liked to smack him good, but then the only person getting arrested would be me.

Reading this reminded me of the banking crisis here in Iceland. And here, there was a run on the banks to get money out in the form of anything other than ISK. Eve Online has some of the most entertaining news reads.

There will always be unhappy people wherever you go, whatever you do. The actions of a few do not reflect the feelings of the many.

So, what you are saying is that if I had 1,000,000 British pounds and no other currency and I live in the United States I am completely poor. Pounds can not be used in the United States. Most people put no value on the pound here, I can't go to Wal-Mart and buy food with it. However, some places, (like the bank) will give me about $1,600,000 for that many pounds.

Just because something is not "directly" transferable does not mean it does not have value.

well eve works on a trust system internally. Happens all the time that somebody will join a new corp and wait a bit until they have access to something valuable then steal it. Would be funny though if somebody tried to sue lol.
