This gives a new meaning to a "virus program"

Personally (back when I had Windows), I never got a virus. Mostly because I used Spybot S&D, which I ran every night before bed. I did once get a network worm from school, but it couldn't connect back to it's source because Spybot S&D prevented it from doing so. Every desktop had to be rebooted after every laptop was scanned and worm free just to get rid of the damned thing...

Well If you have good browsing habits you "may" not need an anti-virus, but ppl who do have good browsing habits still use anti-viruses to enhance "security" (in this case McAfee kinda changed the meaning of security but anyway) the last time my pc got infected with a virus was over 2yrs ago, and that came from a flash drive fr a friend. but other than that i have had no problems with viruses and i have been using Symantec Endpoint Protection on my desktop and Nod32 Smart Security on my laptop.

Eset had a similar prob the other day whe Vista SP2 was released, after installing SP2 you would get continuous BSOD. So everyone has there day

Safe browsing will NOT keep you safe from viruses 100% of the time. Legitimate sites get hacked and malware/virues get put on them. It is actually very common, however the sites don't like to admit it.

Any good virus won't manifest itself in any visual way on your computer. It will just sit back and wait for you to visit your bank's website. Or it will be clicking on adds in the background, or it will be waiting till the bot controller tells it to do something. In all these cases you won't recognize it working, even when it is going at full tilt.

You need a good anti-virus with an active scanner. I personally use Symantec Endpoint Protection, nice enterprise-level software.

Safe browsing = browsing in a Virtual Machine which makes you safe from viruses as only the VM can get a virus in which case you throw away the VM and create a new one, VMware player has a pre-built firefox VM.

anyone else use vipre antivirus? I was curious about it and started using the 15 day trial and i have to admit im impressed. It seems to work very well and it uses a very small amount of resources which is important for my rig.

True. but at the same time, 90% of the time, I'd say its unneeded. If you don't visit any sensitive sites on your computer, or only use it for games, who really cares?

I can see the keylogger:
"wadadadws Shift Space"

I'd argue that viruses are only as dangerous as you make them out to be. A lot of viruses are still more of an annoyance than any real danger.

And...I wipe my computer, and re-install the OS pretty regularly anyway.
