Vista wasn't a commercial success, but it was a damn fine operating system and continues to be as such.

Windows 7 will be seeing my £39 for the student deal as soon as it's avaliable. On the provision that when I pay £9 for shipping and a back-up disc, that it is in fact a full retail box and retail key. Otherwise, no way, I'll be using Vista until it dies.

In raw numbers. In all fairness, though, the landscape of computer usage and ownership was very different when XP came out than it is now.

I disagree. I loved Vista too. My love for Vista stopped me from even trying the RC. I finally got around to trying it and almost immediately replaced both XP and Vista. Vista gave me no problems and after trying Windows 7 I forgot it ever existed.

Vista is a great OS. I have not had one problem with it. You do need a decent CPU, 4 gigs of ram, and at least a 7900 series card to run it. Why upgrade when Microsoft will keep supporting XP until 2014.

When that happens companies will stop making drivers for it and all new software will not be compatible. Vista or Windows 7 will not catch on until this happens.

I've been a regular reader of TG Daily for a while now and used to post a lot of news from there, but have recently stopped unless it's somehow worthy of OCN. The quality of their "reporting" has hit rock bottom. Take articles from this site with a grain of salt because a lot of it is nonsensical crap written to get page hits.
