The read/write commands issued by the memory controller are serialized regardless of how many cores which to access the memory. This test only tests the MC commands to the DIMMs and the DIMMs themselves.

Shared memory as in an onboard videocard grabbing memory from your regular memory? In that case memtest will still find errors outside the OS.
