Default [Cnet] Performance showdown: Windows 7 vs. Snow Leopard

Quote:
As someone who uses both platforms for work and personal entertainment, I've been wanting to do a performance comparison between Windows 7 and Mac OS X since I first got my hands on the Windows 7 RTM (the final build of the OS) more than two months ago, but decided to wait until I could compare the two apples to apples. (No pun intended.)

The article is clearly mac intended but interesting none the less, it gives some objective data; the only part that made me cringe was this one:

Quote:
Third, if you can get by with just software designed by Apple and if money is not a big issue, you will be happy with a Mac. Examples of these software choices are iTunes, iLife, QuickTime, Safari, iChat, and so on (and you probably won't need much more than those for daily entertainment and communication needs). Finally, if money is not an issue--and it definitely is for most of us--you should get a Mac anyway. It's the only platform, for now, that can run both Windows and OS X.
Precisely if money is an issue, you should NOT buy a Mac. I'm pretty sure that almost anyone in this forum could make a better PC for way less money than it's Mac equivalent. And that's a fact, given than Macs have older hardware and are way behind in that aspect.

Edit: I'll put my flame suit on just in case.

it's not illegal, it's against the TOS. Apple, as much as they would like to, can't make their own laws. If you built a machine that can run OS X and install it in your home, Apple won't say a word, but won't give you support for it either, the problem comes when other companies, like Pystar, make profit with it.

EULAs do not equal to Laws.

First off, the test machine is a 15-inch unibody MacBook Pro with a 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, and a 512MB Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT video card.

If his boot time is that long, he's doing something wrong, because my 2 year old White MacBook (with a lesser cpu) with SL doesnt take 36 seconds to boot.

What is 'Multimedia Multitasking'? And good job at using software which has an almost certainly better written Mac version to test... iTunes.

I think this proves that macs are well built machines, with hardware and software being incredibly optimized for each other. This says to me that apple machines are very well tuned, not necessarily better performing.
