i'm pretty happy with my vista installation, and the only reason for me to upgrade to win7 was for DX11 support....but it's coming to vista anyway. :P

Sorry for a (Possibly) dumb question but are there any DX11 games out yet, or even hardware for DX11?

Those who suddenly think Vista is the best OS in the world because they're too stubborn to upgrade to 7, or even try it for that matter really shouldn't be expressing their views in this thread because they're trolling when they do.
...there's plenty of valid reasons not to upgrade to 7 from Vista...

Games, no. (Dirt 2 in December, though.)

Hardware, yes. ATi 57xx and 58xx cards.

I don't know if thsi is a good move or a bad move to be honest. It would take away sales from Win 7 from Vista users, but at the same time making DX11 more ready to the mass. And I think that is a good thing, were it leads to more DX11 games. Hmmm....

hmm... has anyone wondered why it's microsoft thats designing API's? ATI or Nvidia should release their own API's that would be interesting

no, they shouldn't. nvidia's already tried with physx.

nothing good comes from proprietary standards.

Game companies would shoot you in the face if you made that happen.

As long as there is one API, game companies only have to write one set of code. If ATI and Nvidia had competing APIs, companies would have to write code to interface with both, adding a bunch of work to their schedules and pushing up the production cost (and therefore price) of games.

I don't like Microsoft when it pushes its OS monopoly into other markets. But in this case, having a single unified gaming API is a natural extension of an operating system (which is essentially just a unified interface that allows thousands of programs to interact with thousands of hardware devices).
