Default [THG] DX11 already available for Vista

Quote:
Microsoft’s plan is that DirectX 11 will become available to the general public with the release of Windows 7 in a few weeks. Windows Vista, on the other hand, won’t see the upgraded API until later as part of Vista’s Service Pack 3. While that may make sense from a marketing perspective (pushing the new OS based on a feature advantage) there is no real technological reason for this delayed approach.

The final version of DirectX 11 has been available since the end of August 2009. The trick is knowing how to get it installed on Vista. If you dig deep enough and go through the MS Knowledge Base, various blog entries, and the Developer Network, you can actually find an answer. However, it appears that Microsoft is determined to make upgrading Vista to DirectX 11 as difficult as possible.
Quote:
On the following pages, Tom’s Hardware offers a step-by-step guide demonstrating how to activate the download of DirectX 11 (RTM) through Microsoft’s Windows Update by using two simple registry entries. The remainder of the installation completes automatically.
Sry if double post, but it's really good news.

You know you're statement is exactly what makes me laugh about Windows 7.

The fact that everyone has been bashing Vista since day 1, and it wasn't untill 7 came out that everyone was like "oh hey Vista's actually a really good OS and out performs XP" and "oh look Windows 7 is only ever so slightly faster than Vista but both are faster than XP now"

This whole thing cracks me up because instead of believin all the idiot naysayers about Vista I actually used it for a pro-longed period of time and still do on 3 out of my 5 computers and guess what I've never been not happy with it, have always loved it and always knew it was better than XP. Good to see the rest of the population finally catching up on that knowledge lol.

Bleh - you'll see DX11 for XP soon
(unless SERIOUS DELIBERATE COUNTER EFFORTS are made by MS)

Fixed that for you. Everyone knows Vista was bad at the beginning, but the SP's changed all that. I was an early adopter of Ultimate and I'll never do that again with an OS from MS.

Doubt it, I don't think XP even handles Multi-Core well so wouldn't that defeat the purpose of DX11 with its multi-core graphics efficency

well, vista has been patched up the wazoo to get where it is today. Win7 is still barely even fresh out of the starting gate.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Vista quite a bit over the last couple of years, but a change, however small, is still fun. (not like I paid for Win7, thank you MSDNAA!)

I skipped Vista and didn't miss a thing. Going to 7 though, cuz its Vista out of Beta as far as I'm concerned

Glad to see Vista peeps can use DX11 though, hopefully this drives game devs to ramp up and take full advantage.

While this is good news it doesn't matter to me. I'll just be installing Windows 7 and let my copy of Vista catch dust. To stress the point even further, there is no use for DX11 yet. =/
