And what i'm saying is there is a place for Linux servers and a place for Windows servers. And saying you'd never use a Windows server no matter what just says you're ignorant to me.

I would never use a Windows server to host a web page, that's a job for Linux and apache.

This is not news. I've gotten tons of stuff from this site for the last year, and I'm sure I've seen posts about this before...

MSDNAA doesn't have Windows 7. They took it down about a month ago.

I mean legit MSDNAA. My university's MSDNAA still has Windows 7 Pro x86/x64

Oh good. I downloaded Server 08 from them at the beginning of the year. I'm glad R2 is now released which means I can download it for free. And even better that it's x64

Ok...well, the MSDNAA site itself says you can't get Windows 7. I'm pretty sure that's legit, just like my school's site is. Your legit university's website was supposed to stop offering it about a month ago.

Since you're a 19 year old with apparently no experience in the real world of IT, I'm not sure who you believe a statement like this is going to influence. I'm not picking on your age here, I'm just saying that you lack the experience to make a statement like this so categorically.

So to all you other students out there: I'm a 40 year old senior IT manager. I control an IT budget measured in millions of dollars, and I hire and fire people in charge of servers. And I would strongly encourage you to take advantage of this if it suits your career aspirations...Windows Server 2008 is a great OS, and you will see it used in almost every company you apply to work for. Linux is also great, as is Mac OS. They are all good tools when deployed appropriately.

For one, not a "fact". You cannot prove or disprove such a statement.

Second, who cares what the "Linux community" thinks of Windows 7? First you complain about being called a fanboy, then you come back with some nonsense about the "Linux community"? That's like asking the "PS3 community" what it thinks of the Xbox 360...care to take a guess?

Agree. We use Windows for most things, but Linux for our database servers.

Nah, not necessarily, Windows does fine for that too. We're a IIS/.NET shop, and it's working well for us.
