MSDN website

I should point out that when I say I got Windows 7 through MSDNAA, I got the RTM version, not the RC. I noticed on with the ACM version everyone was grabbing copies of Ultimate, but those were just the RC copies that I believe will expire. The only real copy MSDNAA members get is Pro.

If you check the actual MSDN website you'll see that they still have Windows 7 up, I got the same pro version through MSDNAA.

I wouldn't be surprised, maybe given some tweaking. I know that a lot of professionals were configuring Windows Server 2008 as a desktop, it was much better than Vista in performance (closer to XP performance). The trick might be finding drivers for high-end consumer video cards, do they release them for Server?

I'm currently studying tech support at college, so this is avalaible to.

Vulcan, can you tell me what benefits this might have for me to install on my computer? Would using virtual PC be a detriment to my performance?

All drivers that work in Windows 7 can work in Windows Server 2008 R2. Same goes for Vista/2008, and XP/2003.

Worst case scenario you get a message saying that the OS isn't supported, but all you have to do to fix that is add it to the .inf file.

1. Yes.
2. Maybe, but I doubt it's any different from Windows 7.

It's not really a good idea to install it in a Virtual Machine that can only be turned on after your host OS. If you want to take advantage of it you need it to be available for your desktop to connect to before you log on, which means you want it on a separate PC to act as a server.

Unless you're just messing around with it and are going to use other VMs or a spare PC as clients, that's a whole other story.

I was thinking about installing this as my OS and running Vista and Windows 7 from a VM, to mess around with. I was also thinking I could use this OS to make it much easier to access my rig from college and maybe even host a website on it. All this, of course, links into my course wonderfully, too.

Someone said this is basically Windows 7, how true is that?

Server is just a modified OS. All the drivers work.

Hell, you'll prolly have MORE support with the misc server drivers out there!

What do you mean? Having a Virtual PC would of course slow some things down.

This is generally more stable than the desktops, because, after all, it IS a Server OS!
