I'll have to try again tonight when I get home, I scheduled a defrag to run last night. Or I wonder if it's using the wrong drive...one would think that the C: drive would be the "primary" drive to Windows; but it is actually the third in my BIOS, behind two 7200rpm drives.
I have the exact same issue. All other scores are 7.1 or higher but hard drive performance I only get 5.9. For the main OS partition I am running a RAID 0 setup so I thought I would get much higher than that.

Have you even tried W7? If you did you would be singing a totally different tune. I had vista for as long as it was released and I currently have an RC version of W7 and it outperforms Vista in EVERY possible way. I mean the performance difference between the 2 is so easily noticed. Plus, Windows 7 is much more intuitive with a whole bunch more features that Vista had. I believe its worth every penny. Especially the 26 second boot and the 4 second shut down times

Well there were articles saying that like all OS, after time this degrades signifcantly, and boot time isnt anything significant enough for me to want to spend hundreds of dollars to relieve myself of a few mins a day. I would like to try out W7 but my laptop broke and I'm not gonna reinstall over my main PC. Still visual upgrades and a few new features seems like something they could have done in a SP to me..

I dunno, i could see it as a service pack, or a cheap upgrade, but yeah the price they are charging for it makes me vomit a little. although it does have more than "visual upgrades and boot time", just the home networking for idiots upgrades *homegroups* makes me happy because that means i recieve less calls from clients saying "it won't let me get this from that computer on this computer blah blah blah". I am glad my 7 copies were free or else i wouldn't be happy at all though.

With 4gb of ram vista is just fine for me. I rarely have problems with vista, it's not a bad OS.

I never had a problem with Vista but I still upgraded to Windows 7 anyway. For those not happy with the price, simply look for an OEM disc. I bought my copy of Windows 7 (full not upgrade) for only $99 on Newegg with free shipping. IMO it was worth every penny. My physical RAM usage under Vista was always around 40% after booting up. With Windows 7 that has gone to about 25% after boot. This is definitely one great OS.

I've been on the RC since June or earlier with no problems. Some older games have trouble but I eventually got them to run with no problems

But truthfully, IF, I could get win7 to LOOK DIFFERENT.
To ditch that Vista-esque appearance (for that of Windows 2000, or unthemed XP), I would use it.
You could set Vista to look pretty close to Win98/2000/unthemed XP, can you not do that same with Windows 7?

It sould be in the personalization options. There are themes in the list to mimic what would be considered "windows classic" in XP.

I mean this is a 7200RPM 32MB Cache UltraStar HDD, and I didn't expect such a low score. As long as it performs fast with great realiability like it does now, I have no problem.

Vulcan Dragon,
You have a great system, but I think you should be satisfied that you can game with no drawbacks and run applications flawlessly.
