On a serious note: the flu shot is not an actual vaccination. It is a minuscule amount of a certain strain of flu that they predict will outbreak. The small amount allows your body to create antibodies for it and so when you actually do get the flu your body has produced it's own vaccine.

Swine Flu is no scarier than the normal flu we get. Why? It is a normal flu. This year it came from swine, next year it may come from cats. Or pigeons. Or maybe even giraffes, who knows. Snake Flu maybe? The news giants will love that one, rolls off the tongue easily.

Flu virus mutates. It's deadliness can fluctuate. Some years it's so woefully pathetic that it's not even noticed, other years it kills millions(lol early 1900's outbreak). IT happens. This variant is mildly stronger than the normal flu, still anyone with a healthy immune system and a brain in their head has absolutely nothing to worry about. They don't need the shot this year, either.

Dude, I'm pulling information from the CDC. You're not going to find more in-depth, non-biased information on the Swine Flu from anyone else other than the CDC. That's where the news orgs get their info from...

But it's nice to know OCN has so many qualified experts on the flu. I guess I'll take your word over my primary care physician, the CDC, the President, the World Health Organization, etc.

Never mind I'm responsible for a 10 day old infant whose immune system is nearly nonexistant / immature. Yeah she'd be alright if I came home sneezing and hacking all over her. And her mother too for that matter. So you're completely ignorant to say that people have nothing to worry about. Not to mention other people that would rather not get seriously sick from the flu and lose hours at work and lost wages from a preventable disease. Yeah, considerations like these are not important.

No, I'm glad I got the seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccines. It's beneficial to not only me but everyone around me.

I read on wikipedia that more people died from the vaccine than from the disease itself...

Anyway, the real question is not wether this disease is as deadly as some say or not, the real quesiton is: why is the information being mishandled and what's really behind all of this?

One of the answers could be the fear of having an outbreak like the SARS one in China, and it's totally understandable, still, I fail to see why a lot of people is being misinformed. The only thing that this is causing is fear among the people, nothing else.

I understand your point mike, but still, remember that more people died back in the 70's because of the vaccine, compared to the total casualties for the disease itself, which, obviously brings some questions about this vaccine. Besides, this disease, for anyone who has a strong inmune system, does not represent a real danger.

Just to give you an example: in Jan 2008, I got the seasonal flu vaccine, and the next day after that, I was quite sick to even go out to school. I was sick for 3 weeks. I'm definely not getting the AH1N1 flu shot.

I'm not sure what you are referring to with your reference to the 70s. And everyone reacts differently to the vaccines. If you were truly sick for 3 weeks, you are a rare exception. I got the seasonal flu injection one month ago and one day before I had surgery and I was fine. And I just got the H1N1 mist and am fine so far.

I don't understand why think you anyone with a good immune system will be spared without the vaccine. It doesn't work that way. Your body might be able to fend off infection sooner, but that doesn't mean you're immune to a virus. It doesnt mean you can't spread it to other people. It doesn't mean you won't be out of work. etc etc

I see what you're saying but their are other studies out their that are not done by a government ran organization. Just because it's on the CDC doesn't mean it's 100% imo.

Also their are doctors that wont get the shot because of what it's made up of. Just because that's not on the CDC makes it inaccurate? If you want to see what's all in the shot I'm pretty sure it's on the CDC, but unless you search for what the technical name is most people wont think anything of it.

The seasonal flu normally hits around January-February. The swine flu was expected to hit earlier. That is why there are far more outbreaks of H1N1 at the moment.
