Default Microsoft Pulls "Advertising" from Family Guy

Hope this is the right forum for this. Wanted to get some opinions.

Microsoft pulls out of 'Family Guy' deal over offensive jokes

"Microsoft has backed out of a deal to sponsor a show of Family Guy after executives watched an episode and were horrified by jokes about the Holocaust, deaf people and incest."

According to the article, MS had tossed a good chunk of money at Family Guy/Seth McFarlane to do an episode about Win7. The deal is off because of inappropriate jokes like the ones above.

There are a few possibilities here.

1. MS had no clue what this show was about. They did not do any market research. I find this highly unlikely considering it's been on for 8 seasons or so. It's on the air almost all of the time. Fox, TBS, and Adult Swim (not sure if the last one still shows it). It's made the newspapers I believe. This isn't some obscure show on a channel no one watches.

2. MS expected Family Guy to bow to their demands. I find this possible. It is MicroSoft.

3. The most likely situation is that MS knew exactly how inappropriate the show can be and are now backing out to make themselves look like "The Good Guys". They are now getting all the publicity they want without having to pay with their *ahem* good image.

I don't feel like I'm releasing any big secrets here by admitting there's a company called MicroSoft and they just released a new OS called Windows 7.

What do you guys think? Bad idea, unreal expectations or publicity stunt? Any other theories?

Sorry for the repost. I finally found it on page 2. I thought this story was newer. I swear I looked at the first page before I posted this.
