Default [MSNBC] New software acts like biological counterpart to find and diagnose malware

Quote:
Digital ants could soon be crawling through your computer's hard drive, but don't worry, they are there to help.

Scientists from Wake Forest University and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have created an army of digital ants and their superior officers, digital sergeants and sentinels, to search out viruses, worms and other malware.
"To fight the bug, we must understand the bug. We can ill afford another Klendathu."

Is this interesting? I thought so.

Is this news to anyone? If its not, just post your favorite Starship Troopers quote.

Sorry but this sounds really stupid. Maybe it's just due to the oversimplification on MSNBC though.

The only good bug, is a dead bug.

Ya I figured you guys might cringe lol, I thought the idea was interesting despite the abysmal tech knowledge of the author.

Basically they are saying they've found a more computationally efficient method of heuristic malware detection. Interesting idea. I wonder how effective it will be at detecting threats in the wild, and if so would an AV scanner using the technology be significantly faster/easier on system resources.
